Monte Cristo Sandwich
Classic Monte Cristo Sandwich that will become your favorite breakfast sandwich! Loaded ham and cheese between bread slices generously dredged in an egg mixture and cooked until bread slices are crispy.
Servings: 1 sandwich
- 2 sliced bread
- 2 large eggs
- 3 Tbsp half and half creamer
- 1/4 cup shredded cheese (see note)
- 3 slices ham
- salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 Tbsp oil
In a deep dish, combine eggs, half and half, salt and pepper.
Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture on all sides.
In a skillet, heat oil and butter and add the bread sices and pour the remaining egg mixture around the bread slices. Close the lid and cook on medium heat untul eggs are cooked.
Flip the bread slices over and fold the egg mixture onto the bread.
Top one bread slice with cheese and the other with ham and close the sandwich.
Cover with lid and allow the cheese to melt.
CHEESE- Though Swiss or Gruyere cheese is traditionally used, you can use just about any cheese you have on hand. Either shredded or sliced cheese will work.
