  • 1 1/4 cups cornmeal
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


  1. Combine the cornmeal, water, and salt in a saucepan of medium size.
  2. Mix the ingredients together until they are well blended.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Cook the mixture, stirring regularly, until it thickens. This typically takes around 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. If serving as cereal, transfer the mush into bowls.
  6. Optionally, enjoy the mush with milk and sugar, as per your liking.
  7. For frying, pour the mixture into a loaf pan and allow it to chill completely.
  8. Once chilled, remove the solidified mush from the loaf pan.
  9. Slice the mush into portions.
  10. In a skillet, warm a small amount of oil over medium-high heat.
  11. Fry the mush slices until they turn brown on both sides.
  12. Serve the fried mush slices with a sauce of your preference.
